Nearly $8 million in capital outlay funding has been approved by the New Mexico State Legislature for a series of water facility projects across the state.
The projects were submitted to lawmakers by the Interstate Stream Commission, which is a part of the Office of the State Engineer.
One of the largest outlays, at $655,000 will fund improvements to a spill gate belonging to the Bloomfield Irrigation District in San Juan County. Exactly $444,000 has been approved for turbine and pump replacement work at the Fort Sumner Irrigation District in De Baca County.
A Sandoval County project centering on a massive ditch upgrade in the Ponderosa Community is slated to receive $300,000; while dam construction work at Murphy Lake in Mora County is getting $200,000.
Smaller outlays approved by the lawmakers include $100,000 for East Puerto De Luna Acequia improvements in Guadalupe County; and $75,000 for La Fragua Puertecito Saiz Acequia repair work in San Miguel County.
The largest outlay, at $2.5 million, is designed to fund acequia and community ditch project work statewide. The Interstate Stream Commission, which was established in 1935, is tasked with protecting, conserving and developing both New Mexico’s interstate and intrastate stream systems.
