A project that will see the construction of up to 1,500 new homes in Santa Fe is on its way to receiving $8.9 million in state support.
The ongoing Tierra Contenta residential community is slated for construction on some 216 acres on the south side of the city. The developer of the project is the housing developer Homewise Incorporated.
Homewise is a Santa Fe-based nonprofit dedicated to providing home ownership opportunities for those who, primarily due to income issues, are least likely to have their own homes.
Since its founding in 1986, the group has spearheaded the construction of hundreds of both affordable and market value homes. Homewise is officially serving as the master developer of what will be the third phase of the Tierra Contenta project.
Now members of the New Mexico State Legislature have given their approval to a $1.2 billion capital outlay bill that will fund more than 1,400 individual building and infrastructure projects across the state.
The overall capital outlay legislation, HB 450, was approved on March 19 in the state’s House of Representatives on a 41 to 25 vote, before the Senate approved it one day later by 25 to 16.
The legislation has now been sent to Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for her approval.
