Airports in Arizona and Colorado are among the just over 170 airports receiving new federal funding for infrastructure work.
The Federal Aviation Administration has just announced the release of more than $332 million in funding for projects in 32 states under the Airport Infrastructure Grants program.
In announcing the new funding, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said the federal investments are designed to “ensure the traveling public will have safer and more accessible and more efficient airports for decades to come.”
In this latest round of AIG funding, the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is slated to receive $84.3 million for the building of a new 2,100-foot long taxiway and bridge to take on more aircraft operations.
In Colorado, the Telluride Regional Airport is getting $2.6 million to install new navigational aids designed to enhance safety. According to a Federal Aviation Administration press release, the Telluride funding will also go for construction of a new apron and taxiway designed to “bring the airport into conformity with current FAA design and safety standards.”
Colorado is also receiving $5.8 million for terminal building upgrades at the City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport.
The largest individual grant nationally, at $93.3 million, is going to the Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah for the building of a new taxiway.
To date, just under $12 billion in AIG spending has targeted large and small airports across the country. The funding is designed to be used for runway and taxiway construction and upgrade work, as well as any number of terminal facility projects.
