![]() Funding has been approved for the construction of an 80-room hotel and restaurant in Shiprock, New Mexico that will belong to the Navajo Nation. The project, which will go up to the north of U.S. Highway 64 and west of U.S Highway 491, has been in the talking and planning stage for several years. The Navajo Nation Council has given the green light to appropriating $11.4 million to build the facilities. The money will be going to the Navajo Nation Hospitality Enterprise to complete the project. Established in 1982, the Navajo Nation Hospitality Enterprise is tasked with establishing and maintaining hospitality projects for the Navajo Nation. Although an exact timetable for when work on the project will begin, it is thought that it will take at least two years to build. In a statement, Eugenia Charles-Newtown, a member and leader in the Navajo Nation Council, said the hotel will “offer a place to stay for the thousands of tourists visiting parks and monuments in the Four Corners region each year.” By Garry Boulard
