The City of Denver has issued a Request for Proposals regarding work on the ever-popular Red Rocks Amphitheater located around 10 miles to the southwest of the city.
The amphitheater at 17598 W. Alameda Parkway has a seating capacity of around 9,500 and is the host to any number of concerts and entertainment events yearly.
Attracting upwards of 1.5 million people a year, the amphitheater is one of the most unique musical venues in the country, situated next to two massive sandstone formations, and playing host through the decades to everyone from Igor Stravinsky to Van Cliburn, The Beatles, John Denver, and Bruce Springsteen.
The RFP is requesting the services of a construction manager and general contractor on a project designed to expand the facility’s backstage space while also improving accessibility.
The project, notes the RFP, includes “an addition to the south side of the existing backstage,” which is being remodeled, as well as work specific to the venue’s dressing rooms, dining room, kitchen, and offices.
The idea animating the project is to ultimately “improve performer experience, provide direct stage level access, and make arriving and loading more efficient.”
Funding for the Red Rocks Amphitheater is coming out of the $950 million Vibrant Denver bond program which was approved by voters last year.
Submission deadline for the RFP is October 7.
