Plans Announced for Big New Mexico Borderland Campus

An agreement has been reached regarding the construction of what will eventually be a $5 billion high-tech campus in Santa Teresa.

The project will belong to BorderPlex Digital Assets, which is based in Austin and specializes in the building of data centers and advanced manufacturing facilities.

In announcing the project, which includes a Memorandum of Understanding between the company and the State of New Mexico, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham remarked that the deal was evidence that the state is “investing in its economy to build a more prosperous tomorrow.”

As planned, what is being called the BorderPlex Digital Infrastructure Campus will center on an integrated hub that will include data centers, advanced manufacturing, and utility and microgrid power generation, all in one location.

Regarding the wide-open spaces of southern New Mexico, Lanham Napier, BorderPlex Digital Assets chairman, remarked in a statement: “We firmly believe that the next wave of frontier tech belongs on the American frontier.”

In a communication with the El Paso Times, Napier further explained that the company additionally selected Santa Teresa because it’s a “crucial point for trade and technology with our country’s number one trading partner, Mexico.”

Planned work projects at the new campus will see BorderPlelx Digital working with New Mexico State University and the utility company Epcor.

Founded in 2022, BorderPlex Digital has offices in an upscale 32-story building at 600 Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. Members of the company’s leadership team include George P. Bush, the former Texas Land Commissioner and grandson of President George H.W. Bush.

With additional details expected to be announced later, reports are indicating BorderPlex Digital’s campus will be built either off the Pete Domenici Highway or New Mexico State Road 136.
