Plans Announced for Construction of New and Very Tall Apartment Complex in Denver

A specialty bus service stop in downtown Denver may soon be replaced due to the construction of a 25-story mixed-use complex.

The architectural firm Perkins & Will, which has offices in Denver, has submitted papers for a project that will include nearly 650 residential units, made up of studio, one-and two-bedroom apartments, as well as retail and office space, at a site located at 2215 California Street.

As proposed by the Chicago-based CMK Companies, the project will see the building of two side-by-side residential towers, with a swimming pool and outdoor patio space to be built between the two structures.

That property has for years been the home to the El Paso-Los Angeles Express bus service, which provides transportation from Denver to Ciudad Juarez, among other stops.

Plans for the project, which will also include parking spaces for nearly 400 vehicles, were submitted last month to the City of Denver.

The site is near the intersection of California Street and 22nd Street in a part of downtown Denver populated by multi-story apartment complexes. It is also across the street from the landmark Mercury Café, first opened in 1975 and sold last year to new owners.
