State funding has now been secured for a construction project that will see the building of a new home for the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.
That project will go up at the intersection of Violet Avenue and Broadway Street on the north side of the city and will see the construction of a 100,000-square-foot facility that will include exhibit, commercial, office, and retail space.
What is being called the North Boulder Creative Campus has been in the talking stage for several years. Animating the project is a move to create an arts-oriented community in a primarily industrial section of the city.
The architectural firm of SO-IL has been brought in to design the overall campus, which will focus on what has been called a “purpose-built” home for the museum itself.
State funding for the project to the tune of $1.5 million is coming through a Community Revitalization Tax Credit via the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
Actual construction on the project is expected to launch in early 2027.
The museum was founded in 1972 and is currently located in a two-story brick building at 1750 13th Street that was formerly a warehouse.
