A fast-growing conglomeration of businesses operating under the umbrella of RK Industries has announced significant facility expansion plans.
The Denver-based company, which also has a physical presence in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming, says it wants to build upwards of 154,588 square feet in Aurora that will serve as new headquarters and production plant space.
That space will provide offices for the company’s family of businesses: RK Mechanical, RK Services, and RK Electrical.
Space will also be provided for the company’s community-spirited RK Foundation, which provides funding for an array of education and health initiatives.
“Relocating our headquarters to Aurora isn’t just about expanding our footprint in Colorado, it’s about expanding opportunity,” Jon Kinning, RK Industries chief operating officer, said in a statement. Kinning noted that the company expects to hire upwards of 1,700 people in the next eight years.
Development of the Aurora project has been in the works for more than two years and has included the participation of both local and state officials.
The move was facilitated in part through $24.4 million in Job Growth Tax Incentive credits secured through the Colorado Economic Development Commission.
Upon the announcement of the new facility, Colorado Democrat Governor Jared Polis said the move would help to “grow our state’s thriving advanced manufacturing industry.”
RK Industries traces its origins to Kinning Plumbing and Heating, which was launched in 1963 in Pender, Nebraska. The company moved its corporate headquarters to Denver in 1986.
