Proposed Fort Collins Mixed-Use Project with Quik-Trip Store Sparks Opposition

The review process continues for a project that could see the construction of both an electric vehicle substation as well as a convenience store on a busy stretch of road in Fort Collins.

The four-acre site at 2601 S. College Avenue is the former home of prominent regional Ken Garff car dealership, roughly 3 miles to the south of downtown Fort Collins.

While residents have offered minimal objections to the election station component, opposition to a proposed Quik-Trip outlet has been more general.

As proposed, the project would include walkway improvements, a plaza space, and new landscaping.

The one-story convenience store, meanwhile, is slated to measure around 6,500 square feet and will also include eight fuel pumps on the east side of the site. At 6,500 square feet, the store will be slightly larger than the average 6,400-square-foot Quik-Trip store nationally.

Residents opposed to the project, notes the publication Fort Collins Today, “were expecting a more vibrant, mixed-use development.”

Based in Tulsa, the Quik-Trip company currently has more 1,200 locations across the country, with around two dozen located in the Centennial State.

If approved, the project would require the demolition of the existing 23,000-square-foot car dealership structure, which was built in 1966.

Plans for the project are currently under review by the City of Colorado.
