Santa Fe Voters to Decide on Four Separate Bond Proposals Geared for Road, Recreation Center, and Park Work

Upwards of $11.2 million in funds may soon be available for a variety of road projects in Santa Fe, depending upon the results of next month’s election.

The question will appear on city ballots as one of four bond proposals designed to fund a handful of facility and infrastructure projects across Santa Fe.

The $11.2 proposal, officially called the Public Roads and Street Infrastructure Bond, is designed to continue road projects that were originally funded two years ago by a successful $25 million general obligation bond.

The bond will cover both the construction and improvement of streets, sidewalks, and curbs.

That $11.5 million question is the largest of four ballot proposals confronting Santa Fe voters. A smaller $5 million proposal called the Midtown Area Projects Bond will support the building and upgrade of public spaces as well as the city-owned Midtown Santa Fe.

The Midtown Santa Fe site measures around 64 acres and is the former home of St. Michael College at 1600 St. Michael’s Drive. City officials, community leaders, and residents in recent months have been working on an ambitious plan to transform the campus into a mixed-use community hub.

A third project is calling for $4.5 million for construction and general improvement work at the Municipal Recreation Sports Complex located at 205 Caja Del Rio Road. Built in 1998, the 1,200-acre site includes soccer, softball, football, and rugby fields, and is one of the most popular recreation destinations in the city.

The smallest bond proposal at $4.2 million will fund the construction and improvement of a popular splash pad as well as other facilities at the Southwest Area Node Regional Park at 7350 Plaza Centra. The 90-acre property features a ballfield, basketball courts, and modern playground.

Santa Fe voters have historically been highly supportive of such infrastructure bond issues. In 2024, the $25 million bond proposal to fund road improvements passed with a sweeping 83% of the vote.
