Several Years in the Planning, Colorado Springs Townhome Project Advances

Planning is moving forward on a project that will see the building of 26 residential townhome units on the near west side of Colorado Springs.

The Sun Mountain Townhomes project will go up on 2.2 acres near the intersection of W. Uintah Street and North 21st Street in a mostly residential section of the city.

As proposed by the company E6 Development LLC of Colorado Springs, the project will see the building of townhome units spread across seven separate structures.

All the buildings will be three stories in height, and according to city documents, will be designed in an architectural style “intended to match the character, bulk, and scale of the surrounding neighborhood.” Building materials will include stone, cement siding, and shingles.

Renderings of the project show buildings with two stall garages, and second floors with exterior balconies.

The project has been several years in the talking stage and was originally envisioned as 56 units dispersed between three buildings. Comments received during public input meetings convinced the developer to reduce the unit size and scope of the project.

The project is currently moving through the City of Colorado Springs’ approval process. A staff report submitted to the Colorado Springs Planning Commission reviewing the rezoning needed for the project determined that that rezoning would “not be detrimental to the public interest, health, safety, convenience, or general welfare.”
