Work is scheduled to launch next month on the building of two bridges located on U.S. Route 180 in northeast Arizona.

The long-planned project is being undertaken by the Arizona Department of Transportation and will also include the removal of two existing bridges just to the southeast of the town of Holbrook, which, with a population of around 4,900 residents, is the seat of Navajo County.

The structures in question are the Five Mile Wash Bridge and the Little Colorado River Bridge. Work will focus on the building of a new concrete culvert over the Five Mile Wash and a new Little Colorado River Bridge.

Additional work will see US Route 180 roadway improvements at the approaches and departures connected to the bridges, designed to match new deck elevations.

According to a project description published by the ADOT the project will additionally see the replacement of “pavement markings, signing, guardrail, and other related work.”

Route 180 slices through north central Arizona from east to west and crossing the Little Colorado River at milepost 310.

Subject to weather conditions, work on the two bridges is expected to be completed by the fall of 2027.
