Four campuses that are a part of the vast University of New Mexico system may see new facility work depending upon the actions of state lawmakers and the kindness of voters.
The school has submitted to the New Mexico State Legislature, meeting in a 30-day winter session, a series of project proposals, four of which will impact places other than the main Albuquerque campus.
Cumulatively, the four projects, all of which will eventually appear as general obligation bond proposals if approved by lawmakers, will require just over $13 million in funding.
The largest of the four, at $6 million, will see the planning and renovation of the Gurley Hall building at UNM’s Gallup campus, a project designed in part to give students more study space.
A renovation and facility addition project could become reality with work on the Fred Peralta Hall in the middle of the Taos campus, which requires $3.9 million in funding.
The Los Alamos campus is slated to receive $2.2 million in funding for an open space design and upgrade project; while $900,000 will go to a re-roofing and solar panel project at the Learning Resource Center building on the Valencia campus.
The legislature is set to wrap up its short session in about two weeks.
