A plan designed to address the University of Texas at El Paso’s current and future enrollment needs could see the construction of more campus facilities.
In announcing the UTEP Strategic Plan, president Heather Wilson said the school had a goal of increasing diversity and strengthening partnerships with both El Paso Community College and the public school districts of West Texas.
But Wilson also announced a plan to build a UTEP Business Engagement Center that will be designed to, among other things, “help meet the needs of regional businesses for employee training and certification.”
As proposed, the center will enter into partnerships with Fortune 500 companies along the U.S.-Mexico border, and will provide certifications and sponsored degree programs.
Plans are also in the works to upgrade on-campus residential housing facilities, as well as dining and entertainment facilities.
The school currently has round 1,000 beds available in campus residential spaces. It is not yet known how much larger that number will be under the plan.
As part of the big University of Texas system, the 366-acre UTEP, whose official address is 500 W. University Avenue, has an enrollment of more than 25,000 students.
