A more than 4,000-acre ranch in northeast Arizona is now being listed for sale with an asking price of $5.5 million.
But while the sheer size of the land offered is unique enough, what really stands out about the property is that it comes with its own gold mine.
Located in Dolan Springs, roughly 65 miles to the southwest of Las Vegas, Nevada, the Stella Ranch Estate is situated off U.S. Route 93 and features a natural spring as well an existing well.
The site is the home to the historic Pilgrim Gold Mine, which was operational for several decades.
Partially listed by Coldwell Banker Realty, the property is being advertised as “ideal for development, ranching, farming orchards, retreats, rehabs, or off-grid living.”
Financing to get the Pilgrim Gold Mine off the ground was first reported in 1930, with the Los Angeles Times noting some six years later that ore from an eight-foot vein at the mine was “certainly one of the most spectacular” strikes “ever made in Mohave County.”
The mines produced upwards of $200 million in gold until water was struck in 1942, causing “flooding to the 500-foot level,” notes the publication Highline Living.
The mine was shut down later that year via an order from the federal War Production Board to close all nonessential gold mines.
Arizona has long been one of the leading states in the country for mining in general. According to the site Western Mining History, while most of the production was in copper, “nearly every copper mining operation in the state has yielded important quantities of gold.”
