More than 150 individual school building construction and upgrade projects in New Mexico have now secured upwards of $55 million in state funding.
The projects had earlier received a green light from lawmakers during the recently concluded winter 2026 session of the state legislature and have since been signed into law by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
Capital outlay for the projects, which were all submitted to lawmakers by the New Mexico Public Education Department, run the gamut from $15,000 for swimming pool expansion work to the Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, to $3.4 million for construction work at the Las Cruces Public School’s family support center.
Additional big-ticket items include a capital outlay of $1 million for the expansion of the East Mountain High School in Sandia Park; and $900,000 for elementary school playground upgrades within the Lovington Municipal Schools district in Lovington.
Smaller items are seeing $850,000 for renovation work at the Alamogordo High School in Alamogordo; and $605,000 approved for improvements to the New Mexico Academy for the Media Arts, a public charter school in Albuquerque.
$360,000 will target facility improvement work at the Albuquerque Aviation Academy, also a public charter school; with $300,000 slated for gym and cafeteria improvements in the Dexter Consolidated Schools in the town of Dexter.
Nearly ten projects receiving funding are centered on either roof replacements or repairs, not an uncommon issue in a state with relentless sun and gusting winds.
