The City of Fort Collins has issued a Request for Proposals for the construction of two outdoor power transformers that will belong to the city’s primary utility company.
What is officially being called the Midtown Substation will be built in a partnership with the City of Fort Collins Light & Power and the Platte River Power Authority and will see the construction of a 115-kilovolt facility.
The project will go up on land purchased earlier by Fort Collins Light & Power in midtown Fort Collins at the intersection of West Drake Road and West Thunderbird Drive.
Upon completion, the new Midtown Substation will be designed to replace an existing older substation and serve the needs of a growing part of the city, as well as the campus of Colorado State University.
Work details related to the RFP include site planning; civil, structural and geotechnical engineering; and both landscape and architectural services.
Additional details include “navigating the City’s development review process.”
Earlier reports have indicated that the new substation could be operational sometime between 2030 and 2032.
Submission deadline for the RFP is September 25.
