The popular conferencing service known as Zoom has announced plans to build a new research and development facility in metro Phoenix.
Zoom Video Communications, Incorporated is also making plans to build an additional facility in Pittsburgh.
It is not yet known where Zoom’s Phoenix site will be located, but it is expected that it will be somewhere in the vicinity of Arizona State University’s downtown campus.
In a statement, Eric Yuan, chief executive officer of Zoom, said his company decided to open a new property in Phoenix owing to the city’s educated and skilled talent pool, which he described as “well-positioned to help support Zoom’s ongoing growth and continued success.”
Based in San Jose, California, Zoom was founded in 2011, with its service providing online chat and videotelephony launched two years later.
In 2019, the company realized revenues in excess of $622 million.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the company has seen its users increase from around 100 million to more than 200 million, as thousands of government entities, educational institutions, and businesses have used Zoom’s services in lieu of physical meetings.
